The Netherlands Among Europe’s Top Innovators

According to the European Innovation Scoreboard 2025, the Netherlands ranks 3rd among EU member states and 4th overall in the EU + neighboring countries category.

The country has moved into the top three for innovation thanks to strong performance in digitalization, R&D, talent, and business competitiveness. It ranks 1st in the EU for digitalization, with 96% of households connected to high-speed broadband and more than half of the population possessing advanced digital skills.

The Netherlands also stands out for its world-class education and research system, leading Europe in scientific publications and international collaboration. Robust investment in innovation, growing venture capital, and government support for R&D continue to make the country a prime destination for foreign direct investment.

The 2025 report reaffirms the Netherlands as one of Europe’s most innovative and forward-looking economies.
